Arran
is the most accessible of the Scottish islands. Lying in the
Firth of Clyde, between the Ayrshire coast and the Mull of Kintyre,
it can be reached in less than 2 hours from Glasgow.
Calmac ferries (see:
http://www.calmac.co.uk/)
depart several times a day from Ardrossan and take just 55 minutes
to reach Brodick, the main town on Arran.
Both Prestwick and Glasgow Airports are less than 45 minutes
drive to the ferry port, there is a direct train link from Glasgow
Central Station, and drivers are well served by the M8 and M74.
After disembarking from the ferry at Brodick, turn right and
follow the coastal road for approximately 15 miles to the village
of Lochranza. Having passed the Arran distillery on your left,
the golf course will open up on the right. Take a right turn
approximately 400 metres after the distillery onto the road
that cuts across the golf course.
Turn right at the T-junction on the far side of the course and
proceed up the track for approximately 200 metres. Butt Lodge
is the 3rd house along the track and is clearly sign-posted.
